A moment that changed me: I botched my final Harry Potter audition and felt dismay, remorse, shame – then relief
by Jamie Clifton writing in The Guardian
In 1998, Jamie Clifton had his heart set on the latest Goal Kings novel for Christmas but ended up with a book about a kid with a lightning-bolt scar instead—Harry Potter. Like millions around the world, he quickly got hooked on the young wizard and his misfit crew. A year later, during a school assembly, an announcement was made about open auditions for the Harry Potter film adaptation. Even though Jamie was just a kid from rural West Sussex with barely any acting experience outside of school plays, he decided to give it a shot and got his mum to sign him up for a casting call.
